Welcome

The Human Genetics Society of Australasia (HGSA) invites you to the 2014 Annual Scientific Meeting (ASM) to be held at the Hilton Adelaide from 3-6 August 2014 in Adelaide, South Australia. The HGSA ASM 2014 promises to be an exciting meeting with a strong scientific program. The theme in 2014 will be on the Changing Face of Genetic Medicine. A broad range of topics will explore the treatments of genetic disorders, the changes in practice of genetic medicine and treatment of inborn errors of metabolism through to risk prediction and genome wide detection of variation in disorders, including cancer.

The HGSA is the foremost scientific body for those working in the field of Human Genetics throughout Australia and New Zealand.  Our membership currently stands at over 1000 members in Australasia.  The society also supports a number of special interest groups (SIGs) including:

  • Australasian Association of Clinical Geneticists (AACG)
  • Australasian Society of Genetic Counsellors (ASGC)
  • Australasian Society for Inborn Errors of Metabolism (ASIEM)
  • Australasian Society of Cytogeneticists (ASoC)
  • Molecular Genetics Society of Australasia (MGSA)

The conference welcomes delegates working in the field of Human Genetics such as:

  • Cytogeneticists
  • Molecular Geneticists
  • Biochemical Geneticists
  • Metabolic Dietitians
  • Clinical Geneticists
  • Genetic Counsellors
  • Researchers
  • Trainees in all of the above disciplines
  • Medical specialists with an interest in genetic aspects of their field including Obstetricians, Perinatologists, Paediatricians, Neurologists and Cardiologists
  • Nursing and other allied health professionals who work in or have an interest in human genetics

We encourage submission of abstracts to the HGSA 2014 ASM and view them both as a privilege to receive and a vote of confidence from our scientific community.  All abstracts will be published as a Supplement Issue of Twin Research and Human Genetics.

We invite you to explore and enjoy all that this beautiful state has to offer and we look forward to welcoming you to South Australia.

Adelaide

Founded in 1836, Adelaide is the state capital of South Australia.  It is an attractive, well-planned city of wide streets, gardens, squares, parklands and a mixture of historic and modern buildings.

Adelaide is renowned for its rich cultural life.  The city is small enough to be friendly and welcoming, yet large enough to provide plenty of attractions and entertainment. There are also splendid wineries, food producers, villages and natural attractions nearby in the Mount Lofty Ranges, Barossa Valley and Southern Vales.
